Good to know

Short notes behind this hub — not a substitute for the ranking cards above.

Preventive care has a professional schedule

AVMA canine and feline preventive guidelines, and AAHA vaccination guidelines for dogs and cats, are how U.S. clinics time core vaccines, boosters, and wellness visits. A “low-cost vaccine clinic” ranking has to be checked against those cores — not against whoever is cheapest this week.

Heartworm is a parasite with a map

The American Heartworm Society and FDA-approved labels treat heartworm prevention as year-round in much of the United States, with regional risk that is not zero in “cold” states. Over-the-counter folklore and leftover pills from a different year are not a protocol. The published ranking starts with FDA NADA-labeled indication and veterinary prescription status — every product on that list is Rx.

Pets and people share some diseases

CDC’s Healthy Pets, Healthy People pages cover rabies, Salmonella, and other zoonoses. That is why we will score flea/tick products on labeled efficacy and species safety (especially cats and permethrin-type products) rather than on Amazon stars.

Supplements are weakly regulated compared with drugs

FDA does not review most animal supplements the way it reviews drugs. NASC quality seals and third-party testing are useful signals; they are not proof a joint chew treats arthritis. We will not publish a supplement ranking from testimonials.
