Pros & cons

Pros

• hillspet.com Adult Chicken & Barley PDP 2026-09-02: recommended for adult dogs 1-6 years of age; not recommended for puppies and pregnant or nursing dogs. Animal feeding tests using AAFCO procedures substantiate that Hill's Science Diet Adult Chicken & Barley Recipe Dog Food provides complete and balanced nutrition for maintenance of adult dogs.
• 365 kcal/cup (3675 kcal/kg). Adult-maintenance feeding table in cups and grams. Sizes named on the PDP: 45 lb, 35 lb, 15 lb, 5 lb, 2 lb. 7-day transition. Dry food made in Hill's U.S. facilities with global ingredients (company copy). First ingredient listed: Chicken.
• shop.hillspet.com SKU 8178 2026-09-02: one-time $20.99 for the 5 lb bag (autoship $19.94 optional, not required). Same shop lists 15 lb at $51.99. Same maker family includes Adult Large Breed Chicken & Barley on hillspet.com - a different SKU.

Cons

• This row is the original Adult recipe, not Adult Large Breed and not Adult 7+. Do not treat it as a puppy growth diet. Hill's says switch puppies and pregnant or nursing dogs to a Science Diet Puppy SKU.
• U.S. Veterinarians' #1 Recommended Brand on the PDP is marketing. We did not score it. We do not claim WSAVA.
• Complete and balanced is a labeled feeding-trial claim, not a homemade recipe. Transition over 7 days as the PDP says. We are not veterinarians.
