Pros & cons

Pros

find-a-breeder.cfa.org 2026-09-07: search catteries recorded with CFA as currently breeding CFA-recognized breeds; filter by breed category and state/country (full U.S. state list plus Canada provinces and selected countries). Breed photo grid with live listing counts.
Published listing packages on the same page: Annual Plan $50/year and 2-Year Plan $89.95/2 years — Contact Owner, cattery about, up to 5 breeds, website/social, location, up to 10 images.
Explicit non-representation disclaimer on the directory: CFA makes no representations or warranties with respect to breeding or business practices; recommends the same caution as any important business matter. Listings are opt-in participants only — not a complete list of CFA-registered breeders (points to cattery name index). Separate Breeder Code of Ethics page publishes honesty, immunity-before-sale, and Minimum Cattery Standard housing expectations for CFA breeders.

Cons

A paid Find-A-Breeder subscription is an advertising product for CFA-recorded breeders — not a Good Dog-style community-standards questionnaire or required breed-specific DNA panel for every listing.
cfa.org/find-a-breeder/faqs and manage-listing paths returned Page not found on 2026-09-07; pricing and disclaimer are scored from the live find-a-breeder.cfa.org homepage. eCat Find-a-Breeder rebuild noted in June 2026 board minutes is pending (methodology).
Meet the breeder. Ask for health results. Registration papers and a directory row are not a veterinary exam.
